Executive Director

  1. Position Title: Executive Director

  2. Reports To: Refuge Farms Board of Directors

  3. Position Description: Perhaps the primary influence on mood and enthusiasm, the Executive Director must be in touch and aware of all aspects of daily activities while still planning and leading the organization to the future. The Executive Director is responsible to the Refuge Farms Board of Directors for the overall requirements of THE FARM's missions, fiscal activities, day-to-day operations, compliance with corporate by-laws, compliance with all IRS and state regulations and filings, compliance with all grant requirements, and implementation of the The Ways of THE FARM.

  4. Essential Functions and Tasks:
    1. Provide day-to-day administration of Refuge Farms, including management of all programs, personnel activities, agency operations, and finances
    2. Develop and maintain rescue and mission based programs and services consistent with Refuge Farms philosophy and Board direction
    3. Work with Board Chairperson in scheduling Board and Committee meetings
    4. Monitor grants or direct service contracts as assigned; insure the preparation of reports and reporting procedures to satisfy contract or grant requirements
    5. Monitor and support the development of new programs and services to insure that the Refuge Farms mission goals are being met; this includes writing and developing grant applications for new programs
    6. Represent Refuge Farms and maintain contact with private and public entities related to or supporting the missions of rescue and healing

    2. Annual Walk for Refuge
    3. Camp Quest
    4. Volunteer Appreciation Day (with Operations Manager)
    5. One (1) of five (5) Annual Day Camps
    6. Annual Open Barn
    7. Fall Newsletter

  6. Qualifications:
    1. Computer skills (Word, Excel, Publisher, Internet)
    2. Excellent oral and written communication skills
    3. Proven ability to supervise and evaluate program staff
    4. Knowledge of and commitment to the Refuge Farms philosophy; personal experience with horse rescue; knowledge of the human healing experiences
    5. Experience with personnel issues
    6. Experience in managing a business organization
    7. Strong spiritual belief
    8. Willingness to share experiences and beliefs in Blog, articles, and in presentations

  7. Organizational Ethics:
    1. Honesty: Straightforward and honest communication with Refuge Farms management team. Conversation about an individual only when the individual is present and participating in the conversation. Remaining honest with self.
    2. Conformance to The Ways of THE FARM: Constant assessment of surroundings and activities to assure conformance to The Ways of THE FARM. Observations for expansion or clarification of policies to minimize risk and exposure.
    3. Leadership by Example: Presentation of commitment to the mission by placing the volunteers first. Maintaining a positive response to issues or concerns.
    4. Consistent Performance: Constant awareness of outward appearance and persona. The absence of "favorites".
    5. Spiritual Base: A personal and well-established belief in a Greater Being bringing an optimistic and positive impact to the missions.

  8. Personal Contributions:
    1. Non-public hours: 40 hours per week
    2. Annual contribution: $5000
