Menomonie Noon Rotary Club Volunteer Service Award

In December Jessie A. was recognized by both the Menomonie School District Board with a certificate, and by the Menomonie Noon Rotary Club. She was honored through a program in the high school for giving over 150 hours of volunteer community service in the Dunn County area. Jessie is the first underclassman in the Menomonie High School to receive this award.

She is a volunteer at The Refuge Farms, near Spring Valley, including two Applebee's® fundraiser breakfasts and Camp Quest, acquainting disabled children with the healing power of horses; at the Dunn County Humane Society in the dog walking and training program; at the Dunn County Fish and Game Association, including working on the restoration project at Gilbert Creek, helping with the pheasant flock, working at the Dunn County Fair booth, serving at the monthly John Harmon Chicken Dinners, and helping at clubhouse events, banquets, and fundraisers.

She has volunteered with highway cleanup for the University of Wisconsin-Stout's GreenSense environmental group; at lake shores in the Menomonie area with Clean Boats Clean Waters, a group in association with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resourses, to educate boaters about the spread of invasive aquatic species; at the historic Mabel Tainter Memorial Building; and at Freedom Fest in Menomonie for Independence Day 2007.

Jessie worked four out of five days to help construct the huge community playground at the River Heights elementary school under the guidance of UW-Stout's Habitat for Humanity; and worked two nights in costume at the Knapp Lion's Club Haunted House. On top of being active in her high school FFA, Science Olympiad, and working on projects for her 4-H club, besides learning how to drive this year, she has helped her mom and stepdad set up and sell fleece goods and jewelry at craft shows through the fall months. Jessie is a junior at Menomonie Senior High School, and has been on honor roll all through high school.
