Cole, or "Coley", was one of two horses that Sandy and Andy rescued from a Texas boarding facility while visiting in 2002. They noticed Cole, and the other horse, Blaise, because they looked so extremely thin and sickly. When they asked about the horses they were told that, "When the money stops, the feed stops."
Sandy knew Coley was pretty old at that time, and he was so frail that she wasn't sure he would make the trip back to Refuge Farms. But, she also knew that if she didn't try to save him, his fate was surely sealed. But he did survive that trip and today, even though his body shows the signs of his age, he is a thriving and very wise 37 year old gelding!
Coley is very mellow, easy going, likes the attention and affection of humans, and enjoys being brushed. But, don't let that fool you! Knowing how to open a gate, Cole constantly challenges you and often slips out to munch on a bit of lawn grass! He has a very kind and giving heart that he offers to humans and horses alike. When standing in his calming presence, you are able to feel the depth of the wisdom that he carries.
Even though he's pretty old, he will often try to fool you into thinking that he is a young gelding when he comes trotting into the barn to eat the feed that he loves! He is a true delight and one who is dearly loved and cherished at THE FARM.
